I always aspired to be a good singer but my personal circumstances prevented me for taking voice lessons as a child. Joining Kisa’s class----I started in my late thirties----was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I never thought that I could sound or sing the way I do now. I have come to love and appreciate western classical music, and Kisa gives us enough chances to even practice American pop---which is awesome! Each year my family looks forward to the multiple recitals and musical events that Kisa organizes to give her students opportunities to perform. I am originally from India and love to sing Bollywood songs. With Kisa’s advice I have also been able to apply the vocal training to that genre so no matter what your genre is, Kisa can help you grow as a singer.

Kisa Parker is an inspiring voice teacher. She has an excellent ability to communicate about voice and how to use it in any given musical piece we rehearse for the many different recitals of each year. Kisa is phenomenal in helping to develop my voice in classical, Broadway and pop music. I appreciate Kisa’s holistic approach to singing performances including a confident stage presence and music theatre. Kisa’s voice students tend to stay for many years. It is wonderful to be able to witness the individual progress and the progress of the entire group. Kisa’s students are a fun and supportive group of people of all ages, educational, professional and voice training backgrounds including no prior training to professional singers and actors. We learn from Kisa and together to achieve whatever our individual personal singing goals may be.

I am proud and honored to say that Kisa is my singing instructor. I started taking singing lessons in January of 2015. With Kisa’s help, guidance, and motivation, I have gained knowledge and reached a capacity in singing that I never thought I had or could have. My goal was to take singing lessons for one year but that has since changed. One reason it has changed is Kisa. I have seen other singing instructors in action, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been paired with Kisa. She demonstrates passion, patience, and believes in her students. Kisa is my role model and one day, I want to be just like her. She’s awesome!!

Kisa Parker is the best teacher I have had in 59 years of living. She has listened to my stories about the things I do and turned that information to an amazing understanding of how I work. That understanding combined with her knowledge of the mechanics, theory, and reality of musical performance allows her to help me improve in my singing at a very satisfying pace. All of this while we laugh and have fun…

Kisa is an incredibly talented teacher. When I started lessons with her I was a full-time working mom with little singing experience. She was eager to work with someone who shared her love of singing and was not at all concerned with my lack of experience. Since then, I have learned a great deal about technique because she knows how to explain proper singing technique. She even tries to get inside my head to break down any mental barriers I might have. And, she always keeps notes so we can pick up right where we left off. Most importantly, she is supportive and friendly. She makes me feel comfortable and we talk throughout the lesson like friends. I look forward to our lessons because I know I will learn something, because she is a great teacher, and a great teacher helps you find your own voice.

I really enjoyed my lessons with Kisa. Not only is she fun and excited about helping you reach your goals, she was an amazing teacher and really helped me learn to sing properly. As a vocalist who has to deal with seasonal allergies, she taught me to successfully navigate singing when my seasonal allergies would have otherwise made performing impossible. Kisa is a gem!

I used to think of voice lessons as a test and was always afraid to make a mistake. That is, until I met Kisa Parker! She taught me that the voice studio is a safe place where I am allowed to make mistakes. She says I have to allow myself to take risks and make mistakes. She's there to help me correct them! She encouraged me to find my genuine sound, instead of me trying to force a sound that is not natural for me. When I finally was able to accept that concept, my vocal tension disappeared on its own, just because I was more relaxed. After the first semester I took with Kisa, I actually started enjoying my voice!

The Karaoke party was a wonderful event! I really enjoyed singing in an informal setting before such a supportive audience of people who shared their love of singing and music. Performing again after more than a decade was an amazing experience for me and I am so grateful to Kisa for that. It has been a joy to learn from her.

I have been studying voice lessons with Kisa for a year. During this time, we have worked on pop songs, classical songs and even musical. I was completely new to this style of music when I joined Kisa’s studio. Now after a year I have made tremendous improvement in my singing, which includes improvement in high range, stage presence and overall presentation.

I have grown so much as a singer/performer and I couldn't have done it without Kisa. She pushed me during times when I doubted myself, made me step outside of my comfort zone, and helped me learn to embrace and love my voice, something that I've always struggled with.

Kisa had her work cut out for her with me. I am not a performer by nature. My goal was simple: be a better choir member. However, the performance opportunities Houston Sings provides were an excellent training tool. I have greatly improved the quality of my vocal tone, volume and agility. Singing alone before a group focuses the training effort. Now, it could be overwhelming, with the wrong approach. Fortunately, Kisa knows better than I do what I am capable of at any given moment. She stayed flexible with repertoire. When I have struggled with pieces of songs, she had me work through techniques and exercises to improve my sound. Kisa also has an arsenal of psychological tricks. It is amazing how much of singing is mental!

I began my lessons with Kisa during the summer '16 break. I'd been looking for affordable classes to take that could also work with my school schedule. Kisa got back to me quickly and immediately I knew I would be happy and comfortable to learn from her. She was very amicable and took the time to sort out my needs, to find out what it is I wanted to improve. I was a bit nervous going in for my first class, as I hadn’t had to sing in front of anyone for quite a while. Kisa started me off on light, easy warm-ups that encouraged me to project, relax and utilize dormant muscles that gave my voice a crisp, clear sound.
A few weeks before the final lesson, Kisa broached the subject of a karaoke party she was planning and asked me if I'd like to perform. I agreed and she asked me what song I'd like to do, so together we settled on a favorite Beatles song of mine that she agreed worked well with my voice and style of singing. I was so, SO nervous and she asked what about. I told her that my biggest fear was cracking in front of everyone. She had me sing the song and it didn't take long for her to spot why. I wasn’t opening my mouth wide enough on the high notes and I was lifting my chin in a way that restricted my voice.
So, we worked on the song, and kept working on it until the day of. In order to boost my confidence, she had me perform during rehearsal in front of the other singers which really, really helped when it came to nerves. Everyone was so friendly and Kisa was so supportive. It became less about whether I was going to mess up and more about just having fun and realizing no one was there to judge.
The night of the performance, the nerves were still there, but Kisa was totally supportive and my family was there to root for me. The performance went down without a hitch and it was totally amazing. I hadn’t felt that confident in my voice in so long, but working with Kisa has really helped me to rediscover my love for music and singing. I would recommend her lessons to everyone, and I make sure to all the time. Thank you, Kisa!
